"Don't you have to be skinny to be a fashion blogger?"
This is not me!

I recently bumped into a former class mate of mine from university. I hadn't seen her in sooo many years, so we caught up on each other's lives with the usual exchange of info regarding career, marriage and kids. Then I happened to mention that I'd recently started a fashion blog as a hobby: just for fun!
Her reply was, "Don't you have to be skinny to be a fashion blogger?" I was a bit stunned and didn't answer immediately. "Oh, so you're a plus size blogger" she said. "Umm, I guess...I just like clothes and accessories and connecting with people from all around the world", I meekly replied.

Later, it got me thinking....and it made me mad 😠. I am not a model. I am not trying to be a model. I just happen to like clothes and accessories and looking at other people's clothes and accessories! I also like connecting with people from all over the world and enjoy coming up with different outfits! That's all. Simple. Why does my weight have anything to do with that??
I'm not saying that I'm not plus size, because I am plus size. However I resent being solely referred to as a "plus size blogger" because that sticks me in a box that classifies me in a very superficial way.

With me there is no hidden agenda for blogging: I just really like clothes, accessories and cats!!! And getting style inspo and making friends with other bloggers! So, why should I need to look like the women above to have a blog??
This is me! (And Amber of course!!)
Thank you for visiting my blog! XXX
I think that person you mentioned is very shallow and not at all in touch with her senses. If you enjoy blogging and people, like me, enjoy reading your thoughts and comments, go for it. There is no defined specific to be a blogger, just someone who likes clothes and their personal fashion choices. As it is said often "you go girl".
ReplyDeleteI totally agree, Ellen Grace! Thanks so much. XXX
DeleteFashion blogging is not about fitting into a particular mould! You blog, you blog about fashion, therefore you are a fashion blogger! I hate seeing other bloggers list their favourite fashion bloggers and they are all skinny, white, young and blonde! We fashion lovers come in all sizes, shapes, colours and ages!
ReplyDeleteThat's so true, Sheila! Thanks so much. XXX
DeleteYou know my thoughts on this already Sasha!
ReplyDeleteBe you.... you are perfect the way you are.
Bitchy comments like that should be ignored, although she did inspire this post!
Thank you for linking up to #fakeituntilyoumakeit!
